Why attend this event?

The new GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) was signed one year ago and, by May 2018, all schools must be fully compliant with it.

For schools, these new regulations mean that they will need to:

  • Consider whether or not they need to appoint a Data Protection Officer.
  • Review and re-issue updated privacy notices in detail.
  • Gain consent from the pupils (or if under 13, the parent) in order to store their personal data.
  • To ensure processes are in place to detect, report and investigate data breaches.

As education data experts, simultaneously to The Scottish Learning Festival, we will hold a free GDPR Awareness Session for schools and Local Authorities, to ensure you have all the information you need to take action and be prepared.

Who should attend?

Anyone who is interested in GDPR compliance for schools, including (but not limited to):

School senior leaders, data protection leads, compliance and governance officers, data managers, data officers, data architects, data specialists, chief executives and directors from schools and Local Authorities.

This session will cover:

  • Current data protection regulations.
  • What’s new in GDPR.
  • How these changes will affect schools.
  • Data Protection Officers – roles & requirements.
  • Working with suppliers under GDPR.
  • Data Breaches and Subject Access Requests.
  • Question and answer session.

On completion of the course delegates will have:

  • Awareness and understanding of the new GDPR and its impact on your organisation.
  • Key changes relevant to schools.
  • The requirements GDPR will impose on you.
  • An overview of the steps you will need to take to ensure your organisation is compliant.
